Apple TV 4K Brings Siri AI to the Living Room
The fourth generation Apple TV 4K puts a conversational Siri AI on the big screen, listens hands-free through three far-field microphones and reaches stores on 13 November.
Apple has rebuilt the box under the television around its new assistant. The fourth generation Apple TV 4K runs Siri AI full screen, hears you across the room and doubles as a smarter home hub.
Siri AI goes full screen
The headline feature of the new Apple TV 4K is not the hardware but the assistant. Apple calls Siri AI an entirely new version of Siri, powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. On the television it takes over the whole screen: ask which Apple TV shows won at the Emmy Awards this year, and the answer arrives as poster art pulled from the Apple TV app, with follow-up suggestions such as more award-winning comedies.
The more interesting part happens while something is already playing. Viewers can ask follow-up questions, for example where a series was filmed or whether it suits a 15-year-old, and the reply appears in a small overlay instead of interrupting the picture. Paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, Siri AI can also use personal context, so a request like playing the show a friend recommended becomes possible.

No remote required
Three far-field microphones are built into the box. Echo cancellation separates the speaker's voice from whatever is playing, so "Hey Siri" or simply "Siri" works hands-free, even at volume. Under the hood, the A19 chip delivers up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance of the previous generation, plus a dedicated AV1 decoder for more efficient streaming. The Siri Remote keeps its shape but gains Find My support with Precision Finding and can now play a sound when it slips between the cushions.
Bob Borchers, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, sums up the pitch: "With Siri AI, finding something to watch becomes a full-screen, conversational experience."

A cinema setup and a smarter home hub
For the first time, Apple TV 4K can drive a four-speaker surround setup with HomePod mini 2. The speakers recognise their position in the room and calibrate timing and levels on their own; HomePod (2nd generation) works too, as long as front and rear pairs match.
As a home hub, the box now adds Apple Intelligence-generated descriptions of camera activity and summarised notifications in the Home app. Siri AI can switch accessories and scenes by voice, a compatible doorbell shows up on the TV, and Wi-Fi plus Thread are built in.

Privacy by architecture
Microphones in the living room raise obvious questions, and Apple answers them in silicon. Microphone data is processed in Secure Exclaves, compartmentalised runtimes on the A19 that tvOS, apps, the user and Apple cannot access. Siri requests run either on device or in Private Cloud Compute, where, according to Apple, data is neither stored nor made accessible to anyone.
What it means for everyday AI
Search by title and genre has always been the weak spot of streaming boxes. A conversational assistant that knows context and answers mid-scene is a genuinely useful application of generative AI, far more practical than most chatbot demos. The catch for European readers: Siri AI launches in English in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK, and Apple notes that it will not initially be available in the EU on iOS or iPadOS. The hardware itself goes on sale in the U.S. and 29 other countries and regions.
